With little preparation and only ten minutes of cooking time, Air Fried Chicken Cutlets come out crispy, golden, and delicious! Enjoy them alone, over salads, with spaghetti, and a variety of other dishes. I enjoy breaded chicken but might need more bread crumbs to adhere to a large piece of flesh. That’s why I make air-fried chicken cutlets if I want anything crispy.
The air fryer keeps the cutlets delightful, whereas grilled or baked cutlets may become dry. Cover the chicken in breadcrumbs after dredging it in egg, and let the air fryer take care of the rest. How easy it is will amaze you!
What are Air fried chicken cutlets?
Air fryer chicken cutlets are thin slices of chicken breast that have been breaded and cooked in an air fryer. They can be made by breading chicken cutlets with a mixture of breadcrumbs and seasonings, then cooking them in an air fryer until they are crispy and fully cooked. The result is a tender and juicy piece of chicken with a crispy exterior. They can be served as a main course with various sides or used in sandwiches and salads.
What is an air fryer?
An air fryer is a small appliance that uses hot Air and a small amount of oil to cook and crisp foods. It works by circulating hot air around the food, which creates a crispy exterior while cooking the inside of the food through conduction. Air fryers are a popular kitchen appliance because they allow you to make fried foods with less oil, which can be healthier than traditional deep frying. They are also relatively easy to use, with many models coming with various pre-set cooking programs and the ability to adjust the temperature and cooking time manually.

How long does it take to cook chicken cutlets in the air fryer?
The cooking time for chicken cutlets in an air fryer will depend on the thickness of the cutlets and the desired level of doneness. Generally, thin chicken cutlets (less than 1/2 inch thick) will take about 8-10 minutes to cook in an air fryer set to 400°F. Thicker cutlets (about 3/4 inch thick) will take closer to
12-15 minutes to cook through. To ensure that the chicken is cooked to the desired level of doneness, you can use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the cutlets.

How to cut chicken breasts into cutlets?
It would be best to have a sharp knife and a cutting board to cut chicken breasts into cutlets. Here’s a simple method to follow:
- Keep the chicken breast on the cutting board with the smooth side down.
- With a sharp brisket knife, slice the chicken breast horizontally, starting from the thickest end and working toward the thinner end. If the chicken breast is particularly large, you may need to slice it into three or four cutlets.
- If the cutlets are uneven in thickness, you can use a meat mallet or rolling pin to pound them until they are an even thickness gently. Be careful not to pound them too thin, as this can cause them to become dry and tough.
- Alternatively, you can ask your butcher to cut the chicken breasts into cutlets.
Important tips
- Check the internal temperature of the chicken using an instant-read thermometer to ensure it reaches 75 degrees C. 10 minutes worked perfectly for my air fryer; however, one will cook a little bit differently.
- When breading, don’t be scared to use your hands! Your chicken will be crisper if you press more breadcrumbs into the cutlets.
- When air frying breaded chicken cutlets, avoid packing the basket too full. You need the hot air to circulate effectively to achieve the crispest and crunchiest bits.
